Former Disney CEO Bob Iger is being honored as a 2026 Disney Legend at D23.
Current CEO D'Amaro called him a visionary, saying he is "one of the most consequential business leaders of our time."
Iger, he said, never built for the moment. Instead, he built for what lasts.
"That's what legends do," he said.
Robert Downey Jr., Diane Sawyer, Harrison Ford, Ellen Pompeo and Al Michaels later honored Iger by sharing stories of his impact.
"It's your integrity and your kindness that will be your legacy forever," said "Grey's Anatomy" star Pompeo. "And thank you, Bob, for reminding us that leadership is not only about making decision, but about making people matter."
Iger spoke of the responsibility to help make the world a better place, and how grateful he was to have had that exceptional life experience.
As an executive, he said the true job is to support creatives, the true talent that drives this company forward.
He accepted the award in thanks to the creatives and castmembers "who truly make this company what it is."
Bob Iger is the former CEO of The Walt Disney Co. Born in New York City, he began his career as a local TV weatherman before joining ABC in 1974, eventually rising through the ranks to become president and chief operating officer of Capital Cities/ABC prior to its acquisition by Disney. He went on to serve as Disney's CEO from 2005 to 2021 before returning to the role in November 2022 to lead an enterprise-wide creative transformation. Iger stepped down from his role as CEO in March.
During his more than two decades at the helm of Disney, Iger oversaw major acquisitions, including Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm and 21st Century Fox, as well as the 2016 opening of Shanghai Disney Resort and the 2019 launch of Disney+. His tenure has produced record-setting releases such as "Frozen," "Black Panther," "Avengers: Endgame," "Inside Out 2" and "Avatar: Fire and Ash."
A member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and an inductee into the Television Academy Hall of Fame, Iger was named an Honorary Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2022 and awarded France's Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur in 2024.
