Man found dead after hourslong SWAT scene at home near Chatsworth, deputies say

CHATSWORTH, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A man was found dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound after an hourslong barricade situation at a home near Chatsworth on Monday, according to deputies.

Ventura County sheriff's deputies responded to a domestic violence call in the 9400 block of Thompson Avenue just after 2 a.m. Monday.

When deputies arrived, they made verbal contact with the man, who was inside the home. He said he was armed with a gun and fired several shots at the deputies from inside the home, according to the sheriff's department.

No deputies or residents in the neighborhood were struck by the gunfire.

Because the address is located in an unincorporated area of eastern Ventura County near Los Angeles, both the Los Angeles and Simi Valley police departments also responded to the scene.

An hourslong SWAT standoff unfolded, and deputies later obtained a search warrant for the residence.

AIR7 video shows deputies using a battering ram to get into the window. Deputies then flew a drone inside to get a look around.

That's when the man was located and appeared unresponsive, according to the sheriff's department.

SWAT members then entered the home and discovered the man dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Authorities did not immediately release the man's name, pending next-of-kin notifications.
